CAD Blocks

CAD blocks are reusable symbols you insert into a drawing instead of redrawing them every time. This collection holds block sets for furniture, sanitaryware, vegetation, vehicles, people, doors, windows and the smaller objects that fill out a plan.

Well built blocks carry three things: real dimensions, a sensible insertion point, and line weights light enough that the block never competes with the walls around it. A sofa drawn at true size tells you whether the room works. A sofa drawn approximately tells you nothing, and the error only surfaces when someone dimensions the plan.

Blocks behave differently depending on where the cut plane falls. A floor plan is a horizontal section, normally cut about 1.2 m above the floor, so a bed or a table is seen from above and projected down, while a full height wardrobe is cut and takes the heavier outline you use for walls. Overhead elements never reach the cut plane at all and are drawn dashed.

Our guides to furniture CAD blocks, window CAD blocks and what CAD blocks actually are cover the conventions in detail, including the clearances worth memorising before you place anything.
